Generate WooCommerce variation combinations before building the product
A variable product can become difficult to plan as soon as several attributes are involved. Three colors, four sizes and two materials already create 24 possible combinations. This tool calculates the Cartesian product of your attribute values, generates readable SKUs, lets you exclude combinations you do not sell, and exports the result as CSV without uploading product data to WPToolix.
How to use the variation and SKU generator
- Enter a base SKU such as
TSHIRT. - Add attribute names and comma-separated values, for example Color: Black, White and Size: S, M, L.
- Choose how SKU segments should be generated.
- Generate the combinations and review the preview.
- Exclude combinations you do not intend to sell.
- Download the CSV as a planning file or adapt it to your WooCommerce import workflow.
Why the number of variations grows quickly
The total number of possible combinations is the number of values in each variation attribute multiplied together. Four colors × five sizes × three materials produces 60 combinations. WooCommerce does not require you to sell every possible combination, so use the generated list as a planning surface and remove impossible or unavailable combinations before creating products.
SKU planning for WooCommerce variations
WooCommerce variations can have their own SKU, price, stock and other product data. A useful SKU should be stable and unique. This generator creates a deterministic SKU from the base product code plus normalized attribute-value segments. It does not check your live WooCommerce database, so you must still confirm that generated SKUs do not collide with existing products.
Variation attributes still matter after SKU generation
A SKU identifies a variation; it does not define the parent relationship or attributes. In WooCommerce CSV imports, variation rows need the correct product type, parent reference and attribute columns. For update imports, WooCommerce uses product identifiers and has specific rules for creating previously unmatched variations. Review the current WooCommerce importer documentation before a large catalog import.
Use the result with the WPToolix CSV Import Doctor
After adapting your generated combinations into a WooCommerce product CSV, run the file through the WooCommerce CSV Import Doctor to catch duplicate SKUs, missing parent references, suspicious prices and other common preflight problems.
What this tool does not do
It does not connect to your store, create products, query existing SKUs, invent prices or stock quantities, or guarantee that a generated CSV matches every extension-specific import field. It is intentionally a local planning and generation tool.
Frequently asked questions
Does every WooCommerce variation need an SKU?
No, but unique stable SKUs are useful for inventory, integrations and repeat imports. Some import workflows also depend on stable identifiers.
How many variations will three attributes create?
Multiply the number of values for each attribute. For example, 3 colors × 4 sizes × 2 materials = 24 possible combinations.
Can I remove combinations I do not sell?
Yes. Generate the full set, then exclude individual rows before export.
Is my product data uploaded?
No. Combination generation and CSV creation run locally in your browser.
Can I import the exported CSV directly into WooCommerce?
Treat it as a planning/export file. WooCommerce imports require the appropriate parent product, Type, Parent and attribute fields as well as any prices, stock or other data your catalog needs.
